Engleman Resigns After Controversial Backpage

PUBS OFFICE- Joe Engleman ’14, Senior Editor of the B&S, announced in a statement yesterday afternoon that he was resigning from his position after receiving pressure from SPARC. His resignation resulted from his ill-advised backpage commentary on the role of social justice and Grinnell’s relationship with Wall Street.

“I want to thank the B&S for giving me the opportunity to vent my frustration with the state of the world for these past few semesters,” said Engleman. “I’m really going to miss all the time I spent at our office hours hanging out with our creepy writers.”

Grant Dissette ’12, Editor in Chief of the B&S, was extremely disappointed with the content of the backpage. “I leave early to finish a research paper one time, and Joey writes this weak Trotskyist bullshit. We only publish Stalinist-grade editorials. I can tolerate an extra penis joke or two, but this was unacceptable.”

Engleman, while giving off the impression that he is taking his resignation well, has barricaded himself in the Publications office on several occasions. Sources close to Engleman say that he is trying to start Occupy The Pubs Office.

“He’s close to breaking Johnny Buse’s ’11 record for consecutive hours in the Publications Office,” said Dissette.

For Engleman this is a new beginning. “Now that I have my Monday nights free I’m thinking about going to the Grinnell Investment club.”

“Judas,” said Dissette.

Dissette reflected on Engleman’s short tenure with the paper. “Joey never worked on the B&S for the social commentary, he was always in it for the money.”

“That’s why he wrote this article.”
