What Am I Supposed To Do This Weekend?

By: Lawrence Wittenberg '14

Lawrence Wittenberg '14 tries to think of something interesting to do this weekend.

This year has seen some great parties at Grinnell. It seems like there’s something happening every week. The notable exception seems to be this one coming up. I mean it’s not your average weekend – your average weekend has something going on.

I figure this weekend I could stay in and do some homework. I just really, really don’t want to. This campus feels like it needs some sort of huge party. Something to unify us and let us really kick back.

In theory this should be a great weekend. It’s the last weekend before fall break and all everyone wants to do is procrastinate a little bit before mid-sems. The atmosphere feels right for some sort of huge party.

I originally was banking on some sort of Harris to get excited for. Lady Gaga Harris is nice and all but it really doesn’t fulfill my weekly Harris fix. If I don’t get two Harrises in one weekend I go a little crazy. Look, I only have three and three quarters more years to try and hook up with that cute girl in my Mapping the Realm of Religion class. If it doesn’t happen this weekend I’m not sure when it will. Also, I have like half a bottle of Hawkeye. That’s gonna go bad if I don’t drink it before fall break.

I’ve kind of accepted that there isn’t going to be a worthwhile Harris this week but why can’t there be some decent lounge party to fill the void? Maybe something about the size of Loose and Ready? That would be great. I mean it’s probably asking too much for a party of that size.

Even a decent sized sub-free event would be okay. One of those poker nights, maybe. Or videogames in JRC101. Anything to avoid watching a movie in Harris again.

Seriously, I’ll go watch tractor races in town or go cow-tipping if I have to. If only the local homecoming parade wasn’t last weekend. Damn, the timing never works out.

And hey, where am I going to find food around campus?

If only there could be some sort of party that could get this campus out of its malaise. I don’t know, one that unifies everyone. It could progress its way around campus, making stops on North and South Campus. We could even stop at Mac Field in between for a little bit.

I got it! We can just throw a rager on East. We’ll get all the dorms in East together and throw maybe the biggest party of the year. Grinnell will love it.

I toyed with the idea of throwing my own party this weekend but all my friends told me that they were busy. What could they possibly be doing?

I guess I just have to live with the fact that this weekend is gonna be lame. October 9th and 10th are just not conducive to parties, I guess.
